Abstract

In the present study an effort has been made to find out the best fitting distribution to explain the aftershocks behavior in Pakistan. For this purpose two parameter Gamma, Weibull, Lognormal, Frechet and three parameter Generalized Extreme Value and Generalized Pareto distributions are fitted to aftershocks data and parameters for each distribution are estimated using the Maximum Likelihood method. The performance of the distributions are evaluated using Kolmogorove-Smirnove test, Further, probability probability plots are used to confirm the goodness of fit for the candidate distributions. Finally, it is concluded candidate distributions are found to be most appropriate distribution for describing the behavior of aftershocks data in Pakistan.
